About Us

Sustainable Fashion Talks is an initiative by Eco Fashion Week Africa (www.ecofashionweekafrica.com), created to spotlight organizations and brands committed to environmental stewardship.

When our founder, Belinda Atieno, moved back to her country Kenya in 2021, she struggled to find an open and accessible space to connect with people in sustainability that was similar to what she was experiencing in Europe. The existing circles felt exclusive, creating a clear divide between industry experts well-versed in circularity—especially in fashion—and those who were curious but lacked access to the conversation. There was no space for exploration, learning, or meaningful interaction between newcomers and seasoned professionals.

Determined to bridge this gap, Sustainable Fashion Talks was born—an inclusive platform where industry leaders, experts, and individuals interested in sustainability can connect, learn, and grow together. Our goal is to welcome people into the sustainability movement by showcasing real, imperfect transitions through events, forums, collaborations, and workshops designed to raise awareness and drive action against climate change.

This was started with the hope that others would take inspiration from our work, creating a ripple effect —and we’ve already seen clear results of this happening. As more people embrace sustainability, share their journeys, and take action in their own spaces, our collective impact continues to grow.

This is a space for learning and growth, where knowledge is shared without judgment, curiosity is encouraged, and every conversation sparks meaningful action—bringing us one step closer to a more sustainable planet.

What we offer

We are open to partnering with various organizations, brands, and individuals who share our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Together, we create events and workshops that gently and engagingly raise eco-conscious awareness. Our mission is to welcome and inspire those who might shy away from learning about climate change out of a fear of imperfection. We pride ourselves on making sustainability accessible and inviting for everyone, celebrating every step towards a greener future. We can tailor-make the partnership or collaboration to fit your audience as long our values align.

BELINDA –  FOUNDER

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

I am Belinda, a passionate champion of Sustainable Fashion and a promoter of mindful travel.

After watching THE UGLY TRUTH OF FAST FASHION by Hasan Minhaj and THE TRUE COST a documentary about the clothes we wear, I started doing my research on fast fashion industry which led me to doing further research on the negative environmental impact of the two things I love which is Fashion and Travel. I was appalled that something that brought me so much joy could cause great harm to the environment and bring pain to a fellow human being. Although I’ve garnered substantial insight, my journey of enlightenment continues.

I created Sustainable Fashion Talks as an inclusive and safe home for anyone who loves tasteful style, enjoys travel, and those committed to nurturing their mind, body, and spirit, all while minimizing our collective footprint on the earth and its many creatures.

This platform aims to inspire a shift towards sustainable fashion and travel by sharing a genuine and feasible journey toward consumption with conscience through events, collaborations, workshops, and dialogues. The goal is to show that it’s okay to take baby steps towards a more conscious lifestyle because no one adopts a fully sustainable lifestyle overnight.

As I continue to deepen my understanding of climate change and explore the critical intersection of sustainability and human rights within fashion and travel industry, I invite you to enrich this dialogue. Should you have any  educational materials or references, feel free to forward them to belinda@ecofashionweekafrica.com.

I am also the co-founder of Eco Fashion Week Africa.

Eco Fashion Week Africa is more than a celebration; it’s a mission. We dedicate this week to not only impart a lasting positive effect on our planet but also to illuminate minds, young and old, on the urgent matter of textile waste—through innovative workshops and multi-generational events designed to engage, involve, and transform.

Hugs to all.
